Your first amusement park

Your passenger isn't all that thrilled.

On Saturday October 17th 2009 I took you to the Parque de Atracciones in Casa De Campo on the western edge of town. After a long ride on the metro we stopped in for some mediocre Chinese food and then hit the park.

I have more photos which I will post later but for now I just want to post my candidate for movie of the year. Your first “Free Fall”.

As you rode up it was clear to me that you didn’t quite grasp, while watching from the ground, what you had signed up for…on the initial drop I could see signs of the whole thing going very wrong very quickly but you quickly found your feet, so to speak, and had a blast…so much so that on the way out it wouldn’t do but you had to ride it one more time (luckily for me, we made it on line just before they shut it down!).

(The whole thing is great but my favorite bits are the little wave before you got going and your “bravery” at the very end).

Your First Egg Hunt

Well Lilah, coloring eggs is not a tradition in Spain so there are no PAAS egg coloring kits to be had here in Madrid.  So your mother spent the week leading up to Easter looking for alternative egg coloring methods.  In the end she discovered several sites detailing various methods of using natual dyes.

So the night before easter found us boiling red cabbage (blue), red onion skins  (brown) [should have been yellow onions for red/orange but obviously this apparent contradiction caused confusion], Beets (purple) and cumin (yellow).  The colors were not as “vibrant” as one would find with PAAS but the process was just as much fun for you.  You were not satisfied with one color per egg in the end and most of your eggs ended up a strange brown color.  Your Mommy went to great lengths to produce a 4 color egg that turned out rather nice and I just made a blue, purple and yellow egg with various “wax” designs.

The next morning you had yor first Easter egg hunt (along with your first proper introduction to the wonders of Chocolate).  You needed little to no help in finding the eggs scattered throughout the apartment (thanks to Mommy ensuring that I was not to tricky with my egg placement).  After your nap we made our way out Casa De Campo to try and find an open area for kite flying to no avail. However we did manage to find and ride the gondola at the park. Although we did it completely backwards as we hiked to the top of the hill and rode the gondola down instead of up….

We documented the festivites with pictures and a video*

*long video probably only suitable for grandparents.
